Santa Barbara presented tales of the rich Capwells and
Lockridges, as well as the Perkins and Andrades. Their lives were full of
angst, turmoil, deception, kidnappings, rapes, murders and hostage
situations. Had to love them, though, they were just so interesting!
Cruz Castillo and Eden Capwell were one of the show's most idyllic
lovers. Through good times and bad, they always seemed to make their way
back to each other. Their triumphs and their troubles kept them close
together.
Mason Capwell and Julia Wainwright had more problems
staying on the course of true love. Both stubborn attorneys, they were
always clashing over something.
Gina DeMott and Keith Timmons were
the devious couple in the community. He was the District Attorney, with a
dark edge, of course. She was a...... fortune hunter? Well, I can't remember
Gina holding down a real job...
Lionel and Augusta Lockridge,
parents of the Lockridge clan, were very unique and not always very
well-behaved, either. Needless to say, they were a force to contend
with.
The head of the Capwell family, C.C., was demanding,
overbearing and pretty manipulative. However, everyone either loved him,
intensely, or despised the ground he walked on. With Sophia, he had grown
children, Channing (deceased), Eden and Kelly. With Pamela, his first wife,
he had Mason.
In one of the interludes of Cruz and Eden's
relationship, he was seduced by a young actress, Victoria (Tori) Lane. She
was really in love with Cruz and took advantage of him while he was sick.
But, by the time he recovered and she realized that he would never love her,
she decided he was better off with Eden. Then, she realized she was pregnant
with Cruz's son.
Not wanting to be a stumbling block in Eden and
Cruz's happiness, she took Mason up on his offer of marriage. He knew that
Tori was pregnant by Cruz (although Cruz did not) and sacrificed his
happiness with Julia (who he was currently estranged from) to give Tori a
father for her child.
After Tori and Mason's marriage vows, things
began to change for Tori. She felt comfortable with Mason and started to
have feelings for him. She knew Cruz wasn't free, so the best thing was to
take her marriage to Mason seriously. Unfortunately, Mason couldn't bring
himself to forget Julia. They continued to battle on the legal ground and
they were thrown together constantly. He was a man torn in two.
Eventually, Mason and Tori divorced and Mason reconciled with Julia.
Being a single mom was tough on Tori and her mother, Dorothy, came to help
out.
While Dorothy was visiting, Chip became
ill with leukemia. The one thing that would help, a bone marrow transplant,
wasn't possible because there was no match. Tori became desperate and had to
tell Cruz that he was little Chip's father so he could be tested. The news
was tough, but Cruz was miraculously a match for his son.
This was particularly hard on Eden
because she was having difficulty conceiving. She and Cruz wanted a child
and she was angry that she was not the woman to give Cruz his first
child.
After Chip's medical crisis, Tori was involved in an almost
fatal car accident. She thought she was going to die, so she was insistent
on making plans for Chip's care. Her mother, Dorothy, had come to Santa
Barbara to be the strong support that Tori so desperately needed. But Tori
was sure that Chip belonged with Cruz, his father, in case she didn't make
it. However, C.C. had other ideas. He knew about Eden's misery of not being
able to have a baby and he tried to get Tori to give him and Sophia custody
of Chip. He thought that caring for Chip would be too painful for Eden and
he was prepared to do anything, at any cost, to protect her.
But both Tori and C.C. underestimated Dorothy's maternal instincts. She
didn't want Cruz or C.C. to have Chip. She was prepared to go head to head
with both of them for the custody of her grandson!
More to come!
