Tony Geary, pre-Luke
days, played David Lockhart, college student, 1970.
Susan as Martha Ferguson, 1970.
When the show premiered in September of 1969, NBC thought that
the concept of showing the life of the students and faculty of a college
would be a real hit. It should have been and it was a very unique show,
but it only lasted 2½ years. Created by Frank and Doris Hursley, Bright
Promise switched from the original concept to include the rest of the
town of Bancroft, not just the students and faculty. As Martha Ferguson
stood trial for a murder she didn't commit, she was emotionally supported
by Dr. Tracy Graham (played by Dabney Coleman). Bright Promise was
ironically created by the same team that created General Hospital,
and directed by Gloria Monty, GH's long-term producer during the
80's. Also, Susan, David Lewis, Tony Geary and Anne Jeffreys "graduated"
from the college town of Bancroft to the hospital halls of General
Hospital. These four actors would continue with GH for many
years, some still today.
David Lewis played Dean Henry
Pierce
Gail Kobe played Ann Boyd
Jones.
Dabney Coleman played Dr. Tracy Graham.
